Thirty Juan Today

As of today, the heady heights of my twenties are a year further away, like watching the familiar harbour of the mother country get further away as I drift to an uncertain future. I currently stand on the cold deck of the present, contemplative, knowing I'll end up down below dancing a flaming jig with the swabs in a few hours. Thirty was good to me and I've no doubt thirty one, Lucia and Barcelona will continue to treat me well.
When I was a kid, I'd sit and read from joke books to anyone dumb enough not to get out of the way. The picture is reference to one that stuck with me from the sort of racist bit that it would have seemed fine to leave in a kids joke book in the eighties.
"How do you tell the age of an englishman?...
cut off his head and count the rings."
Doesn't even make sense...

Is that because you like it or for blackmailing purposes?
I imagine that either is very likely

Urrgh, that's disgusting. All this time and I never knew you was made of wood. The signs were there (constant watering, never carried a lighter) but I missed them.
Sorry I missed your big day - hope you had a good one. Plenty of water I expect.

Ohhh! 31 years young and full of ....
Lifes rollercoaster has slowed enough for you to become a creative steam train. Where you and yours get the time is beyond me.

I remember 31 as a time I would reflect on youth dissappearing like the magical dot in the centre of our old black and white TV screen, gone but back to haunt on any late night viewing my parents allowed.

Birthdays, so many others' missed but doomed to be hauled through at least my own, greatful for the notices but panged by the omissions.

Love to you and yours

Yes I have had a drink

May only the sweetest songbirds nest among your branches then, or something like that. I've had a drink too. It's better than 'hope you get rained on.
Happy 31st!

So when did you stop waxing your chest?
Or are putting the rug back in rugged?
Or am I just barking up the wrong tree?

Just as long as you're not pissing up the wrong tree! And I do worry about bitter songbirds in my branches!
