I won't add anything else to that because that would be plain silly.

My only real gripe with 100 Bullets is that I don't feel like Risso has really blown me away since he New Orleans story and that was a while ago now.

Actually, the storytelling in some of the last issues is amazing. There are bits of pure cinema editing in there that most artists wouldn't dare to try. There just aren't so many of those static pages that knock your eyeballs out.
I reckon I can still pretty safely call it my favourite big American comic series ever.
Certainly the longest I've read as it came out.
What am I gonna read now?Beezer Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06991699906256197973noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583593107556777852.post-35870975863433029542009-04-29T14:22:00.000+02:002009-04-29T14:22:00.000+02:00Good description of Seaguy. The Somewhere Out West storyline was great but if felt like each of the first three arcs deteriorated, though always so much better than everything else around at the time, with the exception of maybe Bone. When he returned after Murder Me Dead it was like a new lease of life for the book, so deep and dark. Would like to here more people making noise about it in this age of Brubaker in which we live.
As an aside, I also enjoyed his love letter to eighties Daredevil in the Punisher Daredevil mini, though the colours were foul, and his Dark City Batman story was pretty good overall but did include one of the BEST Batman single issue stories I'd read in years. I'll dig out the issue number.
I think the Stray Bullets problem comes from his insistence on publishing it himself, which with the ammount of freedom Dark Horse, Image and Marvel's Icon seem to provide, just seems a bit counter productive.
Young Liars is good but it feels like getting Dr Pepper when you really fancied a Tizer. Will Shynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04954843416997683983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583593107556777852.post-38103634636494232302009-04-29T02:01:00.000+02:002009-04-29T02:01:00.000+02:00Young Liars is pretty good but it kills me that La...Young Liars is pretty good but it kills me that Lapham, despite his stating that he will eventually, hasn't gotten back to Stray Bullets, which is easily the best thing hes ever done.
The first ten issues or so are as good as anything anybodys done in crime comics, well, ever.
Absolutely great stuff.

i really liked Vinarama. Seaguy baffles me. In a good way.David Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01289610966074361701noreply@blogger.com
